Joginder Nagar is located at 31°59′N  76°46′E  / 31.98°N  76.77°E . It has an average elevation of 1,200 meters (4000 feet). Summers are pleasant and mild. In winters the temperature drops low and there is some snowfall.

The nearest airports are at Gaggal (Kangra) and Bhuntar near Kullu the distance from them is 60 km and 110 km respectively.

Joginder Nagar is the terminus of the narrow gauge rail track from Pathankot.

Haulage Way System or Trolley at Joginder Nagar
is one of its own kind in the world. It goes up to Winch Camp situated at an altitude of 8,000 feet. The height of  the peak near Winch camp is about 8,800 feet. On the way to Winch camp there are thick forests of Rhododendron. In winter season there is heavy snowfall over these mountains which sometimes even scales up to 4 feet or above. This spot packs outstanding scenery of Himalayan ranges, including Dhauladhar & Pir panjal  which are up to 17,000 feet or more  above the sea level.

Barot
40 km by road from Joginder Nagar, and 12 km by the haulage trolley, Barot packs an enormous range of out door activity. The reservoir of the power project is located here, and there is a trout breeding centre-making it a wonderful place for angling. Across the river Uhl is the Nargu wild life sanctuary home to the ghoral, Himalayan black bear and a variety of pheasants. There is also a high altitude panoramic lake at an height of 14,000 feet  (4,150 meters) known as Dianasur lake where holy journeys are started in the month of August and September. There are many varieties of herbs and flowers over these mountains having great importance and medicinal use. There are many temples of local Devtas (Gods) in this valley known as Chauhar Valley. Proper arrangements of staying are available in rest houses being run by government and hotels being run by local bodies.

Bir-Billing
Paragliding Pre-World Cup is held every year at Bir-Billing (16 km from Joginder Nagar) in the month of October or November. Billing (8,600 feet) is the hang gliding spot from where Para gliders take off for landing at Chaugan, where this competition is held. Every year hundreds of participants from all over the world take part in this particular competition. Thousands of tourist and viewers from distant places come to join this Cup. Billing is well connected with road where competitors land off to win this great Cup. They fly over the mountains of Baijnath and Joginder Nagar for selected distance. This Cup is started by Hon’ able Chief Minister of the State. Some important world records have been made by foreigner Para gliders here.

Shanan Power House (3km)
Joginder Nagar is the only city in Asia continent having three Power houses simultaneously. Shanan Power House of Joginder Nagar is the oldest Hydro-electric power house of India and one of the oldest powerhouses of the world. This power house was built by Col.V.C Betty, an English engineer and his team. Baijnath Temple (23km)

23 km from Joginder Nagar is this exquisite temple where Lord Shiva is worshipped as Vaidyanath - ‘The Lord of Physicians’. The original temple was built in 804 AD. Here King Ravana is said to have supplicated Lord Shiva for this boon of immortality.

Machchiyal Lake (6km)
6 km from JOGINDER NAGAR  is this small lake held sacred to Machendru Devta means the God of Fish. Fish are fed and worshipped here especially on Saturday and Tuesday. Fishing is strictly prohibited here. A fair in the month of April is held here every year. The first Mahashir fish farm of India is proposed to be build at upper Machchiyal.

Jhatingri
16 km from Joginder Nagar is this enchanting spot atop a hill. Surrounded by a thick deodar forest, the ruins of the summer palace of the Mandi rulers is located here. And the vistas this spot unfolds are breath taking.
